about

Originally intended to be co-released as a 7" EP by Mistape Records and A Veritable Whirlwind Of... labels.

Manifesto written 3/2007 and was part of the original EP layout. It appears below largely unedited except to fit the parameters of this format:

March 2007,
Watching information travel is the ultimate pornography -- the end of the line for all fetish and kink. "Information age", a phrase used not just in relation to the newfound accessibility of information through technological evolution, but also a reference to the full reduction of life and all of its communications into one collective response to an overarching database. It's easy to criticize technology when only looking at current ills and their immediate relationship to techno-innovation, but this is a superficial response to something much deeper than quasi-primitivists care to acknowledge alongside their perpetual boner for "organic residue".

"The Internet", "Mass Media"... these are the most explicit examples, the current crop of hardest-core pornography, but they rest on the same network of stirring heads who've been spitting crude data since a distant dawn. Communication is an undefined voice, oversaturated by its continual echo and sustained over a constant cycle between two complementary bumps -- pregnant stomachs and grave mounds. History books exemplify loss, a final resting place for what was once a vital reality now streamlined and beaded into wispy strands of data -- its only connection to life being the minuscule potential it has to influence the living vital before that too is similarly reduced. Despite all of the benefits of studying history, these sorts of books leave a set of damning expectations, a spectrum of ideals to be tucked into contemporary pockets and used to fuel whimsical beliefs that merely encircle "the tower" without any hope of finding its base. A fault of academicism is its dogmatic appeal to "reference" -- while critical analysis should draw upon studies and philosophy to support itself, these elements should never alienate intuition and personal expression. An institutional grip of course ensures this alienation.

Events and ideas filter through personal interactions, each step further removing them from their source until the "tipping point" -- when a social explosion or other mysterious force finally "puts them over", proliferating them within the database, making them "household words"; "trivia". Intense modern media like the internet mirrors this same process, just more impersonal and less immediately biased in how and to whom it disseminates the seed. The internet is an easy culprit for the spread of misinformation and will continue to be criticized for its spread-eagle accessibility; however, like a child's game of "telephone", information is as good as distorted the second it strays from the source -- two is just as well a crowd of a million once an idea's vitality is lost. Those who blame the internet and cable news networks are just seeing an intense projection of what exists already in our every interaction. "Analog purists" fail to recognize that their own relative perspective blinds them into believing that somehow the analog medium is the "absolute" when it's just another step in a long staircase ascending from a true absolute point; the digital medium may be even farther away from that point, but it too will be eclipsed by a new technological medium, leaving "digital purists" also chained to their time in history. The failure in this type of self-righteousness lies in the helplessness of communication. To overcome the dancing sway of the informational noose, we must revert to our basest animal selves or isolate ourselves completely -- and to reject human commonality in this way is to lead yourself down the road to lashing out or committing suicide, and then you're in the database forever.

The database is the "dossier"... INTO THE DOSSIER!
